Hi honey! It’s Laura, the former Laura Moss, now Whaley! Was just telling my husband about you and wondered how you are doing. I’ve missed your company! I would love to help a sistah out. Call me. I have $50 for you and can mail it to you direct.
I’m trying to make a paypal donation to your efforts, but the site won’t let me(?)
I see that your route will take you thru Santa Fe. If you’ll let me know (about) when you think you’ll be there, I’d be happy to try to meet up with you, and my wife (who doesn’t scoot) and I would like to extend an invitation for you to stay over night - or longer - if you’d like. We live 30 miles south of Santa Fe, near Madrid, NM, off grid in our hand built straw bale house. The dirt road (1 1/2 miles, from State Hwy 14) is a bit rough, but I ride it regularly on either a People 150 or People 250.
We love what you’re doing, and of course share many of your views. If you don’t mind meeting up with some folks old enough to be your parents (and young at heart enough to appreciate your calling), get in touch. In any case, many blessings to you on your journey.
Matthew,
That sounds really interesting. Santa Fe was a split second decision on my trip..but I knew I had to go there…
Thanks for your offer to donate. Working out the kinks on that button. Some days it works. I am on the road for two months, so feel free to check back. Have a great summer!

Just heard about PEACE scooter on Zaadz–What a beautiful project! I wish you love, light, peace, and abundance on your journey to awaken us all! Safe travels!
HEY HEY! This is Todd and Caitlin that you met on the Parkway in NC! We were so excited to meet you and we wish you the best! We will put links to your website on our myspace and yahoo pages. We will do everything to help spread the word of what you are doing. Peace, Love, and Happiness, Alix!
Aww…I wish I had seen this before; I would have offered our spare room (and spare shop space) in Chattanooga as a stop between Ashville and Atlanta. You could have played with the hairless kitties PJ found so disconcerting.
Alix,
i’m a good friend of jaymii’s and would love to offer our place to stay and a beer (we brew our own!) if i’m around. i’m in marin,ca (right on the other side of the GG bridge). let me know when you think you will be in this part of the country.
much love and many blessings,

when you get to tulsa, come by tulsa scooters and we’ll check your scoot out for you, on us, see what we can do for you on your way around the country! sacha
Hi Alix!
We just learned of your journey and would be honored to meet you either in Santa Fe or Albuquerque. Meg, who also rides a Buddy 125 now, and I (Richard) are the proprietors of Centaur Cycles and Scooters (Santa Fe) and New Urban Transport (Abq). We began scootering together by riding a Vespa across Europe in 1969 and have been going strong ever since. We are Genuine dealers and can offer you an oil change or any other service you might need. You are welcome to our guest room in Santa Fe if you need a place to stay. Please call ahead if you can. 505-471-5481.
very best of luck,
Richard
The crew at Atomic Brown Scooter Shop in Oklahoma City would love for you to come by. We’ve been telling everyone about your trip and everyone is so envious. We have over 50

After meeting you in Flagstaff AZ my wife and I discussed my undertaking a coast 2 coast ride on my ninja to highlight the needs of the disabled. We have decided to dedicate ourselves to making that happen. YOU have been an insperation. I had been wanting to do my ride for over a year and it somehow always got shifted to the back of the to do closet. Many thanks, many group hugs, and a whole lot of love to you from us!

Am I right in reading that for every $1 raised, 40 cents goes to the organization that makes it happen, puts fuel in the scooter, etc? And then the organizations that the other 60 cents goes to also likely have organizational costs before people who truly need it ever see the benefits. Given the lean economy right now, to ask with good conscience for people to donate, it would be even better to work with an organization that raises operating costs through other means than your own effort. There are such organizations, but the breakdown shown on your page suggests yours is not one of them. That way 100% of the donations go to the people who need it.
Your scootn for peace was curious enough for me to investigate this website as I had seen sponsors on the postcard given to me. Sponsors and a cut of the donations seems to minimize the result you are shooting for.
Actually Dan, .40 cents goes to the travel expenses. .60 cents, more than half of what I raise, goes for donation. There is no organization making it happen. There are many people who donated products, like Genuine Scooters!
Now, the less money I spend, the more left to give at the end.
.60 cents per dollar to organizations is the least I will give. The more lodging I find for free, the more money I save to give at the end.
Every organization we are donating to needs help because they work hard to improve our world and provide valuable services. No, they aren’t all waiting for P.E.A.C.E SCOOT to write them a check to pay the electric bill. It’s a way to promote community involvement while on the Peace ride and people can learn about the organizations.
There are companies graciously offering prizes to be raffled. It’s a very selfless thing all the way around, positive and fun.
Thanks for your input. Thank you to the people who understand the good consciousness behind the effort and who are helping raise money.
I figured I would be on the road doing this, and instead of just putting up a paypal for me-I could work hard to minimize my own costs and instead fund raise FOR OTHER PEOPLE.
Raffle tickets are only $5 if you want to buy one!
$1 per 1 mile, woo hoo. THere is a Peace map to, if you are interested in purchasing a section, you get to put your name on it-maybe near your hometown. The Peace map is a way to show that with community, resources can go a long way. $1 per 1 mile adds up, and helps 4 nonprofits!
Alix: thanks for the reply. Although I think it is great you are trying to help others I am still troubled by the percentage that never reaches those people. In your case, 60% goes to the 4 organizations…
40% for expenses:
.40 for P.E.A.C.E Scooter Expenses
60% to the charitable organizations:
.25 The Peace Alliance
.25 Environmental Organization
.05 for a Community minded Organization
.05 for The Last Mile
Take the Peace Alliance or the Environmental Organization for example. It remains unclear how much of the 25/60 or 5/12ths of the money that gets funneled their way goes to people who need it, let alone what the specifics are.
Again, it is good to see your intent, but I also encourage you to dig deeper when selecting a cause so that all the bugs you swallowed along the way (and money you raised) equate to more people being helped.
Well I look at it this way, if she raises a dollar for each organization, it’s a dollar more than they had before!
I absolutely love Alix’s motivation and gumption to do this, even though we are complete opposites! She’ll tell you herself that we don’t see eye-to-eye, but I respect the hell out of what she does and says!
Keep the faith girl! See you again soon, and ride safe!
Alix,
Good luck, I’d love to do what you are doing, I still have to save a bit before I get my scoot. You are such a good testament for the reliability of the Genuine Buddys. Just sent $20, it’s not much but hope it helps anyhow. Will probably send more in the future, be careful, have fun!!

Peace is being here now, paying attention, and knowing that every move, every thought, feeling, action can be a choice toward peace. At the funeral this morning for my neighbor's mom, I saw peace in the loving embraces and tears that brought us all together to celebrate the life of Dorothy. She inspired everyone with her peace and love. Just days before she died, she had a dream and woke to say, over and over, "It's so beautiful! It's so beautiful!"
Thanks, Alix, for asking us to write what is peace. Thanks for riding your scooter all around the country, and for being here now. Beautiful!

Peace: absence of violent and hateful conflict. Abundance of love, compassion, and compromise.
VaVaVroom Denise
Peace to me is, simply, empowerment to follow what is in your heart, given by and shared with those around you. It requires mutual trust and respect and selflessness to cultivate and blossom.
Peace is hard because fully practicing it leaves one vulnerable, and that makes many of us feel uncomforatable. I think that explains a lot of the non-peaceful actions committed in our world. Those who work on behalf of peace rarely achieve what is commonly defined as riches and rewards but, I suspect, earn something far more valuable.
Peace is not just an act or a state of being but it is also an embodiment. Peace is you, Alix. Thank you for following your heart and sharing it with all of us.

Awareness and Intent.
It seems so easy, but so sloppy and graceless, to live without these things and therefore they become, for me, keys to peace.
It is with these things in mind (of mind) that Alix has found her peace and the strength to keep it.
I support her. I support you. You are peace.

Peace is opening your mind and heart to change!
Alix, You must realize that you have signified change in people across the nation,...we have kept you in our thoughts and hopefully if you are ever in our neighborhood you'll stop by....you have not only opened our mind by our heart to peace for everyone. Keep it up and hopefully it ripply in the the individuals thoughts across the nation.

I have many long and short definitions for peace. Today, it is each moment that I am so still inside that everything outside of me is a beautiful expression of that which I also am, no matter what. Loving the expression of needs met and unmet and awaiting spirit's prompting as to what my response in each moment shall be.
Karen Johnson
Understanding that amongst the gays, blacks, whites, jews, Muslems, Christians, and other "dividers" in our world are just a bunch of souls doing the best they can to get through another day. It's amazing how many good people you can meet when you make an effort to assist them in that goal instead of being an obstacle.
I would also say that the minorities of this world, and we are all a minority in some way or form, need to resist the urge to "get back" at the majorities that have suppressed for so long. It disappoints me to say this is just as much of a problem as discrimination from the majority.
Eric
Definition of peace: Actively seeking out the good in each and every person, regardless of their traits and habits you may not understand. I have always felt that if every person thought for THEMSELVES instead of letting a govt, media outlet, religion, or other person or persons think for them, the world would be a better place.
I learned this first hand. My parents were of the type that if you made less money, you were lazy and if you made more, you were somehow crooked or greedy. If you drove a different type of car than my parents you might be criticized. You can only imagine what my folks think about different races and homosexuality.
Please understand the hurdle of NOT hating folks like this. I love my parents and fully understand that they are just working with the knowledge they were provided, never having the opportunity to leave the small town and predetermined thoughts that go with the long established community. The best we can do is try to put "dents" in their armor of status quo. My father has met minority friends of mine and has shook the hand of gay men.
I have no agenda towards this beyond meeting and enjoying as many souls in this world as I can before I check out. Life is too short to hate someone because they might have darker or lighter skin, different musical tastes, homosexuality, etc. I might draw the line at being a Dallas Cowboys fan (JUST KIDDING!!!)
