13Jan2009 Filed under: politics Author: adminObama is a money machine. Right now, I’m not interested in hearing about how Obama is attempting to run a public funded Washington. He can do that by raising taxes and saying No to lobbyists. Clears throat.
But PLEASE stop with the emails soliciting money. I gave you a bunch during the election. I volunteered my time. I don’t want to buy a Shepard Fairey inauguration poster, tshirt, or sticker of Obama. Thanks.
Not even if he signs them. And I don’t want to buy TWO at a cheaper price to float one for my friend. I was done when I bought Obama/Biden placards for everyone in the family….and it’s a big family.
I suspect Obama gets to sit on a pretty chunk of that money–we don’t even know how much is raised–do we?
If anyone needs a reminder–our economy sucks. I can’t find a job in Maine. I’m eating beans almost everyday, it helps with the heating bills. I CAN’T AFFORD TO KEEP GIVING YOU MONEY OBAMA. Give me some!

Peace...

Peace is not the absence of tension; but the presence of balance in our lives. It's that balance that we feel when someone smiles at us from across the table as we share a meal... we experience a quiet moment that fills our heart with Hope for Humanity.

I've been asked for "my" definition of PEACE. Peace--to me--is the absence of chaos. It--is not peace between nations, continental powers, political movements. My control over those is insignificant.
Peace is you and me. It is a loving meeting of my mind and yours. It IS, in fact--love. It is thinking of you first, before me. It is caring, nurturing, supporting another. Peace and love are "action" words. I have experienced a huge amount of this love at home and away from home the past five weeks. I experienced that "peace which surpasses all understanding" while traveling and meeting people (scootering) through five states.
On my final ride, the last 50 miles home, I was overwhelmed with the feeling, the knowledge, that I had been so loved in so many ways...accepted, tolerated, fed, "coffee'd", housed, and treated as an equal among equals, no matter what.
Again, for me, "peace" and "love" are so closely related as I might think of the genetic togetherness of identical twins.
The following quote sits on the desk of a long-passed friend of mine. It was meant as a definition of "Humility". As I read, it usually produces a benignancy, replacing immediately any disturbances which found their way into my heart.
"Perpetual quietness of heart. It is to have no trouble. It is never to be fretted or vexed, irritable or sore; to wonder at nothing that is done to me, to feel nothing done against me.
"It is to be at rest when nobody praises me, and when I am blamed or despised, it is to have a blessed home in myself where I can go in and shut the door and pray to my Father in secret and be at PEACE, as in a deep sea of CALMNESS, when all around and about is seeming trouble. "

I’m with you, Alix. The election is over and I’m sick to death of being asked for money. What’s more, it’s so murky where that money is going sometimes. Sometimes it’s for the DNC, but I don’t give a rip about the Democratic party and voted for Obama for his sensibility and agenda — and I’m not alone there, I’m sure.
Still no job? What exactly are you trying to find a job in? Writer? Coffee queen? Scooter test pilot? Dog walker?

Hey Nathan. Ya, it is hard to support a machine that I think could be truly progressive by choosing to make different and smarter expenditures. For instance, with the DNC, or the fancy luncheons, brunches, Armani suits, blah blah.
What a joke, I’m presented with some friggin option to feel empowered by helping out financially or I’m threatened that lobbyists will swarm the administration. So either way, it’s about maintaining a status quo that even without lobbyists doesn’t accurately depict how the majority of Americans live. Know what I mean?
For work, I DO have some income. I’m still Assistant Manager of Content of thesecondroad.org.
But every month is a new threat of the site closing. I’m getting incredible experience and our numbers are really jumping up steadily now. 46% traffic increase this past month and looks like the trend will hold. But I have a cap at 15 hours a week and can’t find much else around here for part time work.
My dream is to work for either Ms. magazine, New York Times, or the Nation. I would like to publish a book about P.E.A.C.E SCOOTER. I would love to get my yoga teaching certification so I can teach yoga to addicts in recovery at rehabs.
Hows life in Eden? I saw your Twitter, -9F, the F doesn’t stand for Fahrenheit. GOOD ONE. Little colder there than here, we were -3F two days ago. Heat Wave!
